Thanksgiving has always held a special place in my heart, and each year on that day, I jot down words that capture the essence of gratitude. Some years are more remarkable than others, but during the most recent one, the words simply flowed out of me. It was an extraordinary holiday because we were actually recording this song, but I insisted that everyone take a day off. I was fortunate enough to borrow the kitchen of John Parish and his wife, Michelle, to cook a meal for everyone. Explaining the customs to Dylan, our drummer and percussionist, and myself, being the only Americans, brought about some interesting conversations. The gathering included the band, the studio staff, and the Parish family, resulting in a truly delightful day. Witnessing such kindness and compassion left me awestruck, and that’s the essence of this song—being in awe of humanity. Upon returning to my room, I was filled with an incredible sense of inspiration, leading me to write what became this song, which we recorded the next morning.
