XXL has announced its much-anticipated Freshman Class of 2023, featuring a roster of emergent rappers that are taking the music industry by storm. This year’s class includes Finesse2Tymes, Lola Brooke, Rob49, Fridayy, Glorilla, 2Rare, SleazyWorld Go, Central Cee, Real Boston Richey, Luh Tyler, TiaCorine, and DC the Don.

Finesse2Tymes, a Memphis-based artist, saw his breakthrough last year with the release of his first major label mixtape, 90 Days. One of its tracks, “Back End,” hit No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved gold status.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Lola Brooke created ripples in the industry with her track “Don’t Play with It.” Following its success, she released several songs including “Dummy Ummy,” “On My Mind,” “Here I Come,” “So Disrespectful,” “Just Relax,” and more. She is now signed with Arista Records in partnership with Team Eighty Productions.

New Orleans rapper Rob49 recently debuted his new album, 4God II, under Rebel Music and Geffen Records. The album features a host of renowned artists such as Birdman, Icewear Vezzo, Roddy Ricch, G Herbo, NoCap, Trippie Redd, DaBaby, and YTB Fatt.

Philadelphia’s own Fridayy, signed to Def Jam Recordings, garnered recognition through his features on Lil Baby’s “Forever” and DJ Khaled “God Did,” with the latter earning him three Grammy nominations.

Emerging from Memphis, Glorilla rose to prominence last year with her hit “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Since the release of this Hitkidd collaboration in April 2022, Glorilla has performed at numerous prestigious events including the BET Hip Hop Awards, the American Music Awards, and the Grammy Awards, even earning a Grammy nomination in the Best Rap Performance category. 2Rare, another Philadelphia artist, drew attention in 2019 with “Big Bag.” After signing to 10K Projects, he went on to release tracks like “Big Drippa,” “New Virus,” and more. Now associated with Second Estate and Warner Records, 2Rare recently unveiled “One of One (Back It Up Pt.2).”

Known for his hit “Sleazy Flow,” SleazyWorld Go plans to release his debut album this fall under Island Records, according to a recent press release.

Central Cee, a West London rapper, launched his debut mixtape, Wild West, in 2021. His collaborations with notable artists such as FKA twigs, Dave, among others, and last year’s hit “Doja” have further elevated his profile.

Lastly, Real Boston Richey from Tallahassee began his rap journey in 2021 following a family tragedy. His releases, Public Housing in 2022 and Public Housing, Pt. 2 in January 2023, have both made it to the Billboard 200.
