MJ Lenderman, the singer-songwriter from Asheville, North Carolina, has made his debut on Anti-Records and has released the music video for his inaugural single with the label, “Rudolph.” The video, directed by Jacob Pankey and Ben Surber, can be seen below.
“Rudolph” was not only penned by Lenderman, but he also co-produced it. In addition, he lent his voice to the song, played the guitar, bass, and drums, while his Wednesday bandmate Xandy Chelmis offered the pedal steel and backup vocals. Alex Farrar collaborated on the track as a co-producer, engineer, mixer, and master. The recording took place at Asheville’s Drop of Sun Studios.
“‘Rudolph’ was the initial song I created following the launch of Boat Songs,” said Lenderman in an official statement. “I held on to the guitar component for an extended period, and gradually crafted the song at my leisure amid tours in 2022. I finally completed the lyrics with my friend during a late night following a Wednesday performance in Atlanta.”
