The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has declared that the 46th Kennedy Center Honors will pay tribute to Queen Latifah, Dionne Warwick, and Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees later this year. They will be joined in this year’s awards cohort by Billy Crystal and opera star Renée Fleming, recognizing their remarkable, enduring contributions to the world of arts. The grand ceremony is set to be broadcasted on CBS and Paramount+ from Washington, D.C. on December 3, with Gloria Estefan, a 2017 honoree, serving as host.

Expressing her elation over being selected for this prestigious cultural accolade, Queen Latifah released a statement:

Our journey began decades ago, and we faced many denials along the way. We were told that leaving New Jersey was impossible, that if you’re a rapper you can’t sing, and that singers can’t turn into actresses. People also said actors couldn’t produce. Today, to find myself standing shoulder-to-shoulder with so many versatile talents feels incredibly rewarding, not just for myself and my team, but for our entire community.

Gibb, who spent his early years in England and Australia, also released a statement about his honor from the Kennedy Center:

I am deeply honored! It’s a fine balance to feel both proud and humble. This honor is one of the most memorable moments in my life, something I’ll always treasure. Looking back over half a century to our humble beginnings in Redcliffe, Queensland, I never anticipated such a turn in my life. The Kennedy Center Honors was something I dared to hope for but never truly believed it could come true. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who transformed this dream into reality. I just wish my brothers were here to share in this extraordinary moment.
