DFL, the hardcore punk supergroup comprised of Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz from Beastie Boys, Monty Messex, Tom Davis, and Tony Converse, is set to release a deluxe reissue of their debut album, “My Crazy Life,” originally released in 1993. The reissue, scheduled for August 11 via Trust, will be the first time the album is pressed on 12″ vinyl. To commemorate this occasion, DFL has shared remastered studio versions of “Pizza Man” and “America’s Most Hardcore,” accompanied by a black-and-white music video featuring footage of DFL’s performances spliced together. You can listen to these songs below.

The deluxe reissue of “My Crazy Life,” remastered by the original producer Mario Caldato Jr., includes a previously unreleased live show titled “Live at G-Son Studios.” This live performance took place on the same day DFL recorded the tracks for their debut album.

In addition to the music, the deluxe reissue comes with a comprehensive full-color zine that delves into the band’s early days. The zine features a 20-page oral history, including interviews with the band members, executives from Grand Royal Records, and other key figures from the scene at that time. It also contains never-before-seen photos by Sofia Coppola, original vinyl release images captured by Spike Jonze, flyers from past shows, and archival images by Bryan Ray Turcotte.

Reflecting on the formation of DFL, Messex recalled the moment when the band began: “I vividly remember the moment when we started DFL. Adam came over to my place in Echo Park, and in a half-joking manner, I asked him if he wanted to start a hardcore band. To my surprise, he responded with, ‘Uh… yeah!’ I had a few songs, and we went over to G-Son. I played them for Adam, and the band was born right then and there.”

Founded in 1991, DFL went through several lineup changes over the years. Drummer Tony Converse left after the release of “My Crazy Life” but rejoined the band the following year. DFL signed with Epitaph in 1994 and released their sophomore album, “Proud to Be,” the following year. After releasing “Grateful” in 1997 and embarking on an extensive tour, the band officially disbanded that same year. However, DFL would later reform in 2013 with Monty Messex, Tom Davis, Nick Trevino, and Nick Manning, though further lineup changes occurred.
