Travis Scott Releasing New Album Utopia and Movie Circus Maximus This Week

This week brings a double treat for Travis Scott’s fans as the rapper announces the release of his upcoming album ‘Utopia’ along with his new movie ‘Circus Maximus’. The film, set to hit theatres this week, will showcase the new tracks from ‘Utopia’, the release date of which Scott confirmed as Friday via a tweet.

Scott teamed up with renowned names such as Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine, Valdimar Jóhannsson, and Kahlil Joseph for the direction of ‘Circus Maximus’. AMC theaters across the U.S. are set to screen the movie starting July 27, with more locations to be announced. The film trailer can be viewed below.

Contrary to the information on the poster, the film was not produced by A24, as clarified by a studio representative to Newsound. Scott’s representatives have been contacted by Newsound for further clarification.

According to the synopsis available on AMC’s ticket portal, ‘Circus Maximus’ presents a visual extravaganza that takes audiences on a global, psychedelic journey. This voyage is bound together by the pulsating sounds from Scott’s eagerly awaited album ‘Utopia’. The film, which marks a collaboration of global filmmakers, explores the human experience and the compelling power of soundscapes.

Last week saw the release of Scott’s new track “K-Pop” featuring The Weeknd and Bad Bunny. The hype continues with a scheduled livestream event, set to perform amid the ancient Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, to celebrate “the world of Utopia”. This comes as Scott’s first album post the unfortunate incident at his 2021 Astroworld music festival in Houston, which led to eight casualties and numerous injuries.

Before ‘Utopia’, Scott released ‘Astroworld’ in 2018 and ‘Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight’ in 2016. He also launched ‘Jackboys’ in 2020, a compilation album showcasing artists from his Cactus Jack record label.

Apart from his two songs preceding ‘Astroworld’, Scott’s latest lead song was “Franchise”, featuring M.I.A. and Young Thug, remixed by Future in 2020. He has also collaborated with renowned artists like Kanye West, Future, Pharrell, SZA, Trippie Red, Metro Boomin, Drake, and 21 Savage. His latest track debut was at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.

In 2020, Scott also joined forces with Kid Cudi for “The Scotts”, unveiled during a Fortnite concert. He also launched songs with NAV and Gunna, and another with Migos and Young Thug. His collaboration with Young Thug, “Out West”, included a cameo from Quincy Jones in its music video. Another noteworthy contribution was his song “The Plan”, recorded for Christopher Nolan’s latest movie ‘Tenet’.
