Pale Saints 30th Anniversary In Ribbons Reissue

Leeds-born dream-pop and shoegaze mavens, Pale Saints, are back in the limelight as they gear up for the 30th-anniversary re-release of their iconic 1992 second album, In Ribbons. Slated to hit the shelves on October 6 through 4AD, this reissue boasts some never-before-heard gems, including a demo of “Kinky Love” by Ian Masters. This particular track is a rare four-track recording and a unique twist on a Nancy Sinatra classic.

The celebratory reissue comes in the form of a special double LP. Disc one will grace your eardrums with a sparkling new remaster of the original UK version of In Ribbons. Disc two is where the real nostalgia kicks in, featuring some unreleased demos. This includes the band’s early stab at Slapp Happy’s “Blue Flower,” along with a couple of tracks performed by the Tintwistle Band—a brass ensemble—that were only accessible on a bonus 7-inch disc included with the initial UK vinyl release. For those more digitally inclined, the complete tracklist is available, well, digitally.

A little behind-the-scenes tea: the reissue was initially set to drop last year to properly commemorate the album’s 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, like a movie plot twist no one asked for, COVID-19 related delays and production setbacks have nudged the release date to 2023. It’s like waiting for the sequel to your favorite film—annoying but hopefully worth it in the end.

In other music news, Pale Saints aren’t the only ones treating fans to a trip down memory lane. Back in 2020, their debut album, The Comforts of Madness, also got the reissue treatment. It even snagged the 21st spot in Newsound’s “The 50 Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time” list. So yes, they’re not new to this, they’re true to this.

Delayed ’cause of the pandemic huh. Story of our lives these past years. But better late than never, right?
