Downtown Boys are all set to embark on a series of concerts across Europe next month, initiating their tour at Barcelona’s Gambeat Weekend festival. But before jetting off to Europe, the band will host a special performance in Brooklyn, New York, on September 12. Fans attending this show will be treated to the premiere of several fresh tracks—their initial new material since contributing to the 2020 documentary, “Miss Marx.” A complete schedule of the tour dates is provided below.
Regarding their new compositions, the group expressed in an official statement:
The last couple of years have posed immense challenges. While many musicians continued to craft their art, we found ourselves unable to engage in creating new songs. Resuming this creative process now, however, feels liberating and invigorating. We aspire to channel both the agony and pleasure of our experiences as we present these pieces to our audience live.
The band’s previous album, “Cost of Living,” was released in 2017. Since then, individual members have delved into various projects. Guitarist Joey “La Neve” DeFrancesco released “The Vital Cord” in 2019, followed by the “History Solved” EP in 2022, while bassist Mary Regalado has been a part of Gauche, which launched “A People’s History of Gauche” in 2019.
In addition to his musical pursuits, DeFrancesco, who has a longstanding association with labor organization, has actively collaborated with the United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW). The advocacy group for musicians has recently urged SXSW to augment artist remunerations, leading to a suggestion from Austin Parks and Recreation Board to the City Council.
